Bob McKenzie Makes Big Statement About Marner Negotiations.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas have mostly finished up their roster tweaks for the 2019 offseason. There still remains one huge unanswered question, what will happen with restricted free agent Mitch Marner. Marner and the Leafs seem to be very far apart and nowhere close on anything new. The NHL's top insider, Bob McKenzie, took a break from his vacation to chime in on the Marner situation. McKenzie reports that at this point, the Leafs are just hoping for an offer sheet so the whole situation can come to an end. He adds that the two sides are so far apart on both term and money value that negotiations are basically going nowhere and doesn't look like it'll go anywhere anytime soon. As for Marner, my view from afar is that it's probably close to or at the point where TOR hopes an offer sheet is tendered. That would allow/force closure, one way or the other. Match the offer sheet or take the compensation, but it would be done.
