Last night, with the Leafs' net empty, the Boston Bruins found a way to put the game away thanks to Brad Marchand, who scored the insurance marker on the power play. It was Marchand's second tally and third point of the evening.
As Marchand skated past the Leafs' bench towards the Bruins' bench to deliver some fist bumps to the boys, he made sure to get within earshot of the Leafs before saying "it's over in five", meaning the series is done in 5 games.
With the Bruins holding a 2-1 series lead, Marchand is implying that the Bruins will win on Saturday and then again when the series shifts back to Boston next week for Game 5.
It's not wise to poke the bear, and I'm not making a Bruins joke here. The Leafs certainly heard what Marchand was saying as he skated past the benches and should use that as "bulletin board material" to get fired up for Game 4 on Saturday.
Sure, this comment was just Marchand's way of expressing his belief in his team, but he knew exactly what he was doing, waiting to be within earshot of the Leafs' bench before making the remark. He wants to be in their heads. He wants them to play angry. He wants them to be emotional.
Marchand is still one of the best agitators in the game. Hopefully, though, the Leafs can make him eat his words on Saturday.
