"After being one of the top teams in the AHL, the Toronto Marlies were having a tough season. They lost their head coach as Sheldon Keefe made the jump to the NHL after Mike Babcock was fired and lost defenseman throughout the year as the Maple Leafs dealt with injury issues. They likely weren't going to make the playoffs sitting nine points out and now it's officially over. The AHL officially canceled their season on Monday morning because of the coronavirus. "The AHL Board of Governors has voted to cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 AHL regular season and the 2020 Calder Cup Playoffs due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis."

This will likely help the NHL and their chances of continuing the season as it will make more players available to finish the 2019-20 season.
