A new season is just around the corner and as we approach the month of August, writers have begun compiling their lists of the top fantasy hockey options for 2024-25.
Naturally, Auston Matthews is going to be high on just about everyone's fantasy hockey wish list, but if you don't end up with a top-5 pick, the chances are slim-to-none that you'll even get a sniff at drafting him, at least according to Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin.
Larkin has released his official list of the top-300 fantasy players for the 2024-25 season and much to the delight of Leafs Nation, Auston Matthews is listed in the number 4 spot, behind only Edmonton's two-headed dragon, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and Colorado Avalanche phenom Nathan MacKinnon.
Matthews shot the lights out last season, scoring an otherworldly 69 goals and 107 points, which, surprisingly enough, didn't even land him in the top-5 among point-producers league-wide. Matthews finished 6th in league scoring last year behind the likes of David Pastrnak, Artemi Panarin, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov.
Other noteworthy Maple Leafs, such as William Nylander and Mitch Marner also landed inside of the top-30, with Nylander's summer ranking a lot higher than it was at this point last summer, holding down the #22 spot on Larkin's list. Marner came in a hair lower, at 27th overall.
The next highest-ranked Maple Leaf, John Tavares, finished just outside of the top-100, at 104th.
