Former Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Ceci had a disastrous shift against the Los Angeles Kings last night that resulted in a very embarrassing goal against.

The play occurred in the 3rd period when Ceci was looking to make a cross-ice pass to his D partner in his own zone. Unfortunately, as Ceci went to make the pass, his stick shattered and he was unable to complete the pass.

In desperation, Ceci dove to try to swat the puck across the ice with his hand, but it wound up directly on the tape of the Kings forechecker, Alex Laferriere, who fed another former Leaf, Trevor Moore, for the goal.

Ceci was not popular with the fanbase during his time with the Leafs. His penchant for making ill-timed mistakes, especially in his own zone, always left fans wanting more.

After being drafted in the 1st round (15th overall) by the Ottawa Senators back in 2012, many believed that Ceci was a future number one defenseman in the NHL. However, he never developed into anything more than 3rd pairing defenseman.

In 786 career NHL games, Ceci has managed to tally just 48 goals and 211 points. He also has just 14 total points across 65 career playoff games.

It's safe to say that after this one, Leafs fans are rejoicing, happy to know that the Leafs no longer have to worry about Ceci's mistakes. Now, they can just sit back and laugh with the rest of us.

Thankfully for the Oilers, Ceci's giveaway didn't cost them the game, as they won by a score of 7-4 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
