One Leafs fan noticed something very interesting about Nazem Kadri's social media bio, which has many wondering if he's coming home this summer.
Back when Kadri was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2019, for many in Leafs Nation, it was a real punch to the gut. Kadri was a fan favourite in Toronto and after he realized his dream of hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2022, the London, Ontario native became a UFA, finally settling on a 7-year deal with the Calgary Flames worth $7M per season.
When Kadri inked that deal, it was with the intention of joining a Stanley Cup contender. The Flames had just pulled off a high profile trade, sending
Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers, with
Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weeger being the key returns for Calgary.
Of course, what we know now that we didn't know then was that the Flames were on a steep slide, going from contender to rebuilding franchise, taking the wind out of Kadri's sails. Now, the 33-year-old is hoping for a trade back to a contending team.
In terms of how the Maple Leafs fit into all of this, a Twitter/X user who goes by the handle "@aziz_leafs" discovered something interesting on Kadri's Instagram profile following the rumours regarding Kadri's likelihood to move this summer. Kadri's bio has Calgary, plane emoji, Toronto displayed very clearly as of 3:37pm on June 28th.
There is plenty of speculation on what Kadri's bio actually means. Some are of the mindset that Kadri is on his way to Toronto via a trade. Others believe that Kadri simply flew back to Toronto, his home, following the conclusion of the Flames' season. There is even a cohort of fans who simply see the bio detail as a reference to Kadri's two homes.
Perhaps the reason that so many are wondering about a potential reunion with the Leafs is fueled by their internal desires to have Kadri back in the blue and white. At any rate, with Kadri's name out there in trade rumours, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of the Leafs/Kadri reunion chatter.
Kadri is coming off of a nice rebound year in Calgary, having notched 29 goals and 75 points in 82 games this past season.
