The Toronto Maple Leafs have some big questions going into the offseason regarding some of their UFA's and the bad news is, one of them is expected to be one of the hottest on the market. Leafs' left winger James van Riemsdyk is arguably the top free agent on the market this summer if John Tavares and John Carlson re-sign with their respective teams. While Leafs' fans can still hold out some hope the team retains JVR, it's highly unlikely thanks to Evander Kane's freshly signed contract with the San Jose Sharks. The two players are extremely comparable. JVR is 29 while Kane is 26, JVR has a 36 goal season and a 30 goal season while Kane has one 30 goal season. Kane has a 29 goal season along with a 28 goal season while JVR has a 27 goal season and 29 goal season. JVR has 201 goals in 609 games over his career so far while Kane has 186 goals in 574 games. With the production being so close and Kane having signed a 7 year contract worth $7million a season, there's no reason why JVR can't get a similar deal. End of the road for JVR in Toronto? Most likely...
