When the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals linked up earlier in the season, it was a special game for Capitals' center Dylan Strome for a variety of reasons, including the fact that he grew up as a Leafs fan, being from nearby Mississauga.
Strome had also never scored a goal against the Maple Leafs in his career, so it was a little more sweeter when he finally buried one during their 4-3 overtime loss on the 13th of November.
With the Capitals in town tonight to face the Maple Leafs, Strome was asked by Jay Rosehill what it's like to have grown up as a fan of the team and having family and friends asking for tickets. Even as a professional athlete, the bill runs high with how expensive tickets are in Toronto - one of Strome's only gripes with coming to town to play the Leafs.
Tickets are always absurdly priced in Toronto, so much so that even NHL players from the area feel the financial stint when they have to pop for tickets for their loved ones to be able to attend the games.
Obviously, any fan of the team who is from the area and attends games regularly will know just how hard it hits the wallet.
Strome is enjoying a career year with the Capitals after struggling to find his footing to start his NHL career with the Arizona Coyotes. He only managed to play 48 games across parts of 3 seasons for the team that drafted him 3rd overall - 1 pick ahead of Leafs superstar Mitch Marner - in the 2015 draft before being moved to Chicago.
He found his touch with the Blackhawks and has made his presence known in Washington as he has accumulated 108 assists and 166 points in 188 games, including 34 points in just 25 contests this year.
Expect the Maple Leafs to keep a closer eye on him tonight when they face-off for the second time this season.
