A week ago, the Maple Leafs wrapped up their annual Leafs Development Camp, with a fun Blue vs White scrimmage at Ford Performance Centre in Toronto.
Prior to the scrimmage, the week-long event featured several Leafs prospects, college players and free agents coming together to use the tools at their disposal in Toronto to learn what it takes to make it at the highest level.
It would appear as though the messages being sent from the staff in Toronto have really resonated with Cowan, who upon arriving home from Development Camp, immediately resumed his training, not taking any time off as he looks to secure a roster spot with the Leafs this season.
Per Evan Doerfler of The Hockey News, Cowan has begun working with Epic Sports Centre. The company even released a snap from one of their training sessions, celebrating Cowan's 2023 Scouting Combine record for pro agility, which remained intact this year as nobody had broken it.
Cowan has always been a dogged worker, which is one of the main qualities that the Leafs have coveted in recent years. They want hard-working players with good hockey sense. Cowan is certainly that, but he also contains a ton of skill, as is evidenced by his breakout year in the OHL in 2023-24. Cowan was named both regular season MVP and playoff MVP last season.
He's not a lock to make the Maple Leafs out of training camp, but if Cowan continues to work as hard as he has to get to this point, we could very well be watching the Mount Brydges, Ontario native pulling a Maple Leafs jersey over his pads instead of a London Knights jersey on opening night of the 2024-25 season.
