It's no secret now, the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to make a push to dump Patrick Marleau and contract. Marleau only has one year left on his contract, however the Leafs need the cap space and he seems to be at the top of the list to be odd man out. There's some roadblocks to facilitating a Marleau trade though, first his age, 39, and the fact he has a full no movement clause. Earlier reports had the Los Angeles Kings and Arizona Coyotes in negotiation with the Leafs but it seems their price might be high.Elliotte Friedman revealed on the latest edition of the 31 Thoughts Podcast just what exactly the Leafs will need to do to get a trade done. Friedman explains the Leafs will likely have to copy the Washington Capitals blueprint from last year where they were able to trade Brooks Orpik to Colorado by attaching Philipp Grubauer. «I think it's really complicated. What Colorado did last year with Orpik, they traded for him and got Grubauer with him and then bought Orpik out. I think that's what a lot of teams have suggested. That they'd be willing to do.»«So if that kind of trade is going to have to happen, who's Toronto's Grubauer? What are they giving up to make somebody take Marleau? I'm not conviced that Colorado or Arizona are willing to do it unless there is a steep price.»«What I heard about the Kings is that they want you to take someone with term. Like why would Toronto want to do that?»
