The former fifth-round draft pick in the 1994 draft was on 'Leafs Morning Take' yesterday and was asked about the potential of Woll. He was asked specifically if Woll reminds him of Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger and had the potential to become the next Oettinger. Turco admitted that he doesn't know Woll personally, but believes if he can overcome the injuries and find a way to stay healthy, he could be the Leafs' Oettinger.
Woll played in just 25 games for the Leafs this season thanks to a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in December, but in those 25 games, he posted a 2.94GAA and .907 save percentage. He was even better in 3 playoff games before being hurt at the end of Game 6 against the Boston Bruins where he posted a ridiculous 0.86 GAA and .964 save percentage.
Eligible for an extension on July 1st, the Leafs have already made it known that they believe in Woll, but that they need to find a way to keep him healthy so he can be used as their number one goalie. With Leafs GM Brad Treliving basically confirming that Ilya Samsonov won't be back, the net is Woll's to lose going into next season, barring a trade for a bona-fide number one goalie.
