A former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has received his punishment after being suspended indefinitely for testing positive for a banned substance.
Miro Aaltonen was playing for SC Kloten of the Swiss National League back in January when it was announced he had tested positive for a banned substance.
"In the media, the player has admitted to the allegations and announced that he will accept the consequences of his actions and seek help. Thanks to the athlete's cooperation, the case was handled as quickly as possible, which was in the interest of all parties.
In addition to the suspension, the player will have to pay a fine of 1,000 Swiss francs (approximately $1100 USD)."
Aaltonen was initially drafted into the NHL by the Anaheim Ducks in 2013, but waited the necessary amount of time to become a free agent.
In 2017, he signed an entry-level deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs and made a case for the main roster before being sent to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
After not getting a shot in the Maple Leafs in 2017-18, Aaltonen decided to return to the KHL, where he played until signing in the Swiss National League in 2022.
