A former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who did big things with the Toronto Marlies, has found himself at the center of doping allegations in Europe.
A player who entered the NHL after signing an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2017 has been suspended indefinitely after serious accusations were placed upon him.
Miro Aaltonen, who is currently playing for Kloten HC of the Swiss National League, is suspected of an anti-doping violation.
The 31-year-old is having one of his best seasons since leaving North America in 2018. He is Kloten HC's top scorer with 20 goals and 35 points in 34 games.
"Until the case is closed, neither EHC Kloten nor the controlling authority will provide any further information on the content of the investigation."
Aaltonen, who is originally from Finland, was a sixth-round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2013. However, he waited the nessecary amount of time to become a free agent, and signed an ELC with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017.
At the Leafs training camp in 2017, Aaltonen made a push to make the team for the start of the regular season, but ended up with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
He had a great season in the AHL, and was a force in the playoffs, scoring 13 points to help the Marlies win their first Calder Cup championship in 13 years.
Aaltonen left the Maple Leafs the very next season as a restricted free agent, opting to return to the KHL. He's been playing in Switzerland since 2021.
There's no word on what may have been found in Aaltonen's body, and we'll likely have to wait until the league's investigation is complete to get more information.
