Jonatan Berggren barely received a slap on the wrist after a cross-check to the head of Leafs forward Connor Dewar, not unlike the one Auston Matthews was suspended two games for in 2022.

Last night, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was unimpressed with his team's performance in a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

One controversial moment from the game that appears to be generating a buzz on Sunday was when Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren delivered a dangerous cross-check to Leafs forward Connor Dewar.

While a suspension was expected by many, Leafs Nation was especially frustrated to find out that Berggren barely even had his wrist slapped by the Department of Player Safety. He skated away with nothing more than a small fine.

James Mirtle of The Athletic weighed in on the incident, stating that Berggren should have at least received a 1-game suspension. He compared the incident to a similar one by Auston Matthews back in 2022, which resulted in a two-game suspension.

''Should have been at least a game. Crosscheck to side of head''

The NHL continues to show a clear bias against the Maple Leafs, going against precedents that had long been set and letting opposing players get away pretty clean, while also throwing the book at any Maple Leaf who steps out of line -- most recently Ryan Reaves and Morgan Rielly, who both received lengthy suspensions where perhaps a game or two would have sufficed.

The Maple Leafs will look to bounce back from the loss tonight against Buffalo, albeitwith some changes to the line-up.
