The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be in no rush to get 25-year-old Timothy Liljegren out of town, and one insider believes there's a method behind the madness of General Manager Brad Treliving. Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period appeared on The Leafs Nation's "Leafs Morning Take" podcast this week to discuss the situation with Liljegren, and said there are plenty of options available for a trade.
Liljegren recently broke his silence on the trade rumours he's been involved in, but would only say, "if it happens, it happens". Dave Pagnotta believes it will happen, but says Brad Treliving has no reason to rush it.
Pagnotta added Treliving will certainly respond to calls and texts he might get in Timothy Liljegren, but stated he may just keep him around until the trade deadline, and package him with more assets to land an impact player for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Podcast host Nick Alberga argued that Timothy Liljegren now has negative trade value given his lack of playing time so far this season. Dave Pagnotta didn't disagree, but said the Maple Leafs' depth on defense is the main reason Liljegren is sitting, and other teams recognize that.
On a recent episode of 32 Thoughts, insider Elliotte Friedman said he believes the Leafs are working hard on a Liljegren trade, as no one is happy with the current situation.
