TSN's Darren Dreger provided an intriguing update on the timeline for the potential return of Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz following knee surgery.
Since that time, the former second-round pick has been recovering with Craig Berube revealing on Saturday that the team expects him to begin skating this week.
On Monday's edition of TSN 1050's First Up', TSN's Darren Dreger was asked to provide more context to Berube's comments and when Stolarz is expected to return to the lineup.
"This one is a little bit unique because he a procedure to the knee, but the first step is always getting back on the ice - just testing the leg and seeing how it feels and slowly working your way back.
As soon as he can get back into practice return, that tells you he is close to making a return.
The message I was given, was that everyone was hopeful that he would be playing in a game at some point in late January, but they wouldn't be concerned if it wasn't early February."
Given how conservative the Leafs have been with injuries this season though, seeing Stolarz back before the start of February is less likely than some may think.
At the time of his injury, Stolarz was first in save percentage among goalies, and currently, despite missing the last month he sits second behind only Connor Hellebuyck among goaltenders with 15 or more games played.
