"The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas have done a pretty good job at plucking talent from the KHL. Unfortunately now it seems they'll be the ones getting plucked this time around. Reports out of Russia indicate that Traktor Chelyabinsk is currently in negotiations to bring over Leafs' forward Pontus Aberg. The 26 year old forward has bounced around the NHL and only played in five games for the Leafs last year year spending the majority of his time in the AHL. While Aberg hasn't really been able to find his game in the NHL besides one productive stretch with Anaheim during the 2018-19 season, Aberg came through for the Marlies last year with 20 goals and 24 assists. Aberg was set set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights after the 2019-20 season.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Pontus Aberg is in contract talks with KHL club Traktor Chelyabinsk, according to a report from Swedish outlet Expressen. #LeafsForeverhttps://t.co/1dcrUOOzVM — NHL News (@puck_report2) May 6, 2020
