"The Toronto Maple Leafs surprised a lot of analysts yesterday with a contract signing announcement. After a couple of days of hype surrounding KHL defenseman Mikko Lehtonen negotiating with various teams, he came to his decision. The Leafs swooped in and signed him to a one year deal. Toronto hadn't been mentioned in any rumours as it was mostly Montreal, New Jersey and Los Angeles. With so much hype surrounding the KHL's leading scorer among defenseman, it was curious as to how the Leafs' were able to bring him in salary cap wise and now we have the answer. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that Lehtonen signed a one year deal with the Leafs worth $925k. There was lots of hype regarding Lehtonen and him possibly playing in the top four, however at that salary you have to wonder if he's even a lock to make the team.
