Top Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowancontinues to impress in the OHL with the London Knights.
While his points per game average is down slightly from last season, he has 16 points in 12 games and is playing some solid hockey after failing to make the cut for the Maple Leafs in training camp.
More notably, his scorching start to the season has him on track to break a CHL record that was previously thought to be untouchable.
Per a recent post from Leafslatest on X, Cowan has taken his pursuit of CHL history to a whole new level:
Cowan is now within striking distance of breaking the all-time record of registering at least one point in 55 consecutive games, set by former Maple Leaf Doug Gilmour. He's also closing in on Alexander Radulov's 50-game point streak, which is the longest in the CHL since the year 2000.
While Cowan idolized Nazem Kadri and Mitch Marner growing up, his most recent NHL comparable was Philadelphia Flyers star Travis Konecny, given their similar playing styles and skill sets. A player like that will always be coveted.
Cowan is so close to having his name etched into the record books, but I'm sure if you asked him, he'd have passed up on the all-time CHL point streak for the chance to begin his NHL career this season. Unfortunately, a very competitive Leafs training camp combined with a bit of an underwhelming performance from the Mount Brydges, Ontario native in the pre-season has put him in a position where he'll have to wait another year.
The silver-lining, though, is that now Cowan can not only pursue this impressive record, but perhaps a second consecutive OHL championship as well, and maybe even a Memorial Cup.
