Leafs reveal timeline for injured forward's return to action
The Toronto Maple Leafs have rattled off 7 consecutive victories, they are getting consistent contributions from their secondary options in Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi, and now they are on the verge of possessing a completely healthy compliment of forwards with Calle Jarnkrok set to return in the very near future.
The 32-year-old forward has been sidelined since the 26th of January after sustaining a broken knuckle during a team practice session. Sheldon Keefe gave us a little insight on his progress and when to expect him back in the lineup:
"Jarny's made progress, but obviously, it wasn't to the point where he could join us in full practice today," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Monday. "I think the target for him is closer to the weekend and into the next week."
It hasn't been the most memorable season of Jarnkrok's 11-year career as he has tallied just 10 goals and 19 points in 46 games after posting career-highs last year across the board with 20 goals, 19 assists, and 39 points. He was riding a 9-game point-less drought before the injury and has just 2 goals to his name over his 16 games.
David Alter wondered where Jarnkrok would slot into the lineup upon his return. Before the injury he was skating with Max Domi and Nicholas Robertson on the third line, but over the last few games, Domi was promoted to the second line in between Bertuzzi and William Nylander.
With John Tavares in between Robertson and Bobby McMann on the third line, Alter can see Jarnkrok filling in for Pontus Holmberg - who is waiver exempt - as the Maple Leafs shouldn't break up their top-9 with how well they've all been playing recently. We'll have to wait and see how this all develops.
