Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has given reporters an update on the status of Calle Jarnkrok, but the update he provided wasn't the best of news.
Forward Calle Jarnkrok of the Toronto Maple Leafs hasn't played a game this season, and it looks like it will remain that way for the foreseeable future.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube provided an update on Jarnkrok on Tuesday, but it wasn't the update anyone was hoping for after a lengthy absence for the Swedish forward.
Jarnkrok has skated, but he's still a ways away from returning, according to Berube, and will be evaluated again in two weeks.
"Timeline, that's a tough one. He's a ways away, but he is progressing in the right direction, skating a little bit now, which is a good sign. We'll see how it goes here in the next two weeks and then we'd have more of a definitive timeline."
It took a while for Toronto to confirm what type of injury Jarnkrok is actually dealing with. It was revealed back in November that he's been going through issues with his groin, and a sports hernia.
Jarnkrok's potential return has significant implications for the Maple Leafs' trade deadline plans.
It's no secret the Leafs want to add to their center depth, with two veterans recently being linked to the team by a trusted NHL insider. Jarnkrok can play both center and wing, but so far, the Leafs appear to have preferred him on the wing.
Jarnkrok had 10 goals and 21 points for the Maple Leafs last season. He has not played since Toronto's first round exit from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at the hands of the Boston Bruins.
