Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger has been blown away by Chris Tanev's performance, and shared his admiration for a Tanev with friend and Leafs goalie Joseph Woll over dinner on Monday.
Oettinger, of the Dallas Stars, told reporters that he and Joseph Woll had dinner together last night to talk about old times.
Oettinger and Woll played together in their younger years with the U.S National under-17 and under-18 teams. Oettinger would go on to play at Boston University, while Woll attended nearby Boston College.
Woll received high praise from Oettinger, who said he views Woll as a mentor of sorts.
"He's just a perfect human. I really looked up at him a lot when I was at the program. Hockey wasn't as serious for me as it was for him. And just the way he takes care of the body. You know, all the little stuff that he does. There's a lot of stuff that I'm in the locker room. So, I still continue to learn from him."
Chris Tanev had been linked to the Leafs for several seasons before finally inking a 6-year contract with the club back in July. By the sounds of things, it was a good decision by Leafs GM Brad Treliving.
