Maple Leafs forward Steven Lorentz has a very particular pre-game routine, but after an embarrassing mishap against Washington, he made a necessary adjustment to it.

Living out his childhood dream as a member of the Maple Leafs, it's no surprise that Lorentz is full of energy every night when he takes to the ice for the pre-game skate.

Since officially joining the Leafs on a one-year deal, the Kitchener, Ontario native quickly became a fan and team favourite thanks to that energy and vigor.

Unfortunately, while attempting his pre-game routine of body-checking the glass against the Washington Capitals last Saturday, Lorentz hit a bit of a snag when the glass fought back and his helmet strap got caught.

To avoid getting caught in the glass again, the 28-year-old made a slight, but humorous adjustment to his pre-game routine, ensuring his helmet was done up before crashing into the glass, undoing the strap once he completed his routine.

While it's highly unlikely that the same mishap would ever occur again, it would appear as though Lorentz is erring on the side of caution. Neurotic? Maybe a little, but it's better than winding up on the blooper reel twice in one season for the same blunder.

The former seventh-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes has been a fantastic addition to the Leafs' bottom-six and is one of just four players to skate in all 41 games so far this season. Not only has he added speed and physicality to the fourth line, but he has become one of Craig Berube's most trusted penalty killers which has led to many to speculate that an extension is already in the works.

Through 41 games, the Stanley Cup Champion has already surpassed his goals and point totals from the 38 games he played with the Florida Panthers last season with 4 goals and 8 points and is just 11 points shy of tying his career-high of 19 which he set with the San Jose Sharks during the 2022-23 season.
