Per an official report from Friedman on Twitter/X on Sunday afternoon, the Maple Leafs and Max Domi have significantly narrowed the gap in contract negotiations and are expected to reach a deal that will prevent the 2nd generation Leaf from reaching free agency.
Domi was a key piece for the Maple Leafs in the top six last season, registering 47 points in 80 games. He posted an additional 4 points in 7 games against the Boston Bruins in Round 1 of the playoffs.
The deal has not yet been confirmed, but when all is said and done, Friedman expects Domi to get done, along with the Chris Tanev deal. Once these deals are completed, the Leafs will have approximately $11M-$12M left to play with, barring any trades to open up some additional cap space of course.
