While the Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to reach an agreement with restricted free agent William Nylander, the team has had contract talks with Auston Matthews. Matthews is currently playing on the last year of his deal and like Nylander will become RFA after this season. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Leafs have basically two options when it comes to Matthews. The first would be to sign him to a max deal, which would mean an eight year contract extension but would likely cost the Leafs $12million or $12.5million a season. The other option for the Leafs would be to sign him to a bit of a cheaper deal for five years, however that contract would end when Matthews would be eligible for free agency. Becoming UFA, there's a high chance Matthews would look at all his available options and possibly leave Toronto. Which would you prefer to sign the Leafs sign Matthews to?
