While the Toronto Maple Leafs are rolling off to a more than respectable start to the season, forward William Nylander is still at a standoff with the team. The restricted free agent remains unsigned and there doesn't seem to be any sign of urgency from the Leafs' to get a deal done. While there's been reports that Nylander has been in contact with other teams, it looks like he's also been in contact with teams in the KHL. NHL insider Darren Dreger appeared on TSN 1050 recently:«Right, and none of this should be surprising,» began Dreger. «The KHL often will look at NHL players, particularly NHL players without contracts and Nylander doesn't have one of those and of course they would have some interest. The question is does William Nylander have the type of interest whereby this is going to go anywhere.» Dreger also mentioned the possibility of Nylander signing in the Swedish Elite League, and those possibilities become bigger with every passing day. «If he's not willing to budge by December 1, then at some point Lewis Gross is going to have to consider some of that outside interest, and the KHL is a league that pays.»
