After requesting a trade in late June, Robertson held firm on his ask, but so did the Leafs, with GM Brad Treliving drawing a line in the sand. After months of speculation, the stalemate has come to an end Tuesday morning with the Leafs signing Robertson to a 1-year deal that will pay him $875K.
While injuries hindered Robertson through the first few seasons of his career, last season the former second-round pick managed to stay healthy. Unfortunately, he found himself as the 13th forward, skating in just 56 games for the Leafs. In those 56 games however, Robertson managed to produce 14 goals and 27 points while playing under 12 minutes per game.
With a clear path to a top-six role on the left wing, Robertson has a huge opportunity ahead of him this season and could be in line for a massive raise if he is able to earn the trust of Craig Berube and prove he be reliable on both sides of the puck.
