The Toronto Maple Leafs are exploring a potential trade with the Ottawa Senators, which could include veteran winger Calle Jarnkrok.

The Leafs are due for some changes this off-season after another disappointing playoff performance, yet again. However, it seems like the Leafs are going to finally address a huge problem in their lineup, the defense.
Jarnkrok seems like the perfect player to move out for the Leafs, even though he's effective when he's in the line up, but he's on the wrong side of 30, injury prone and makes $2.1M per season until the 2025-26.
It's not that the Swedish winger is a bad player, it's more because of the depth of the organization. The Leafs have a plethora of talent incoming in the forward position, as blue chip prospects Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten have both shown they are NHL ready.
Also, the Leafs' defense right now is a huge question mark as defenders like TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano, Ilya Lyubushkin and Joel Edmundson are all pending UFAs.
Apparently the Ottawa Senators have kicked tires on Calle Jarnkrok and weather it's a cap dump, or the Leafs can acquire a pick or a prospect in the deal, they have to take a long look at the proposal.
Jarnkrok produced 10 goals and 21 points in 52 games for the Maple Leafs this past season, while missing two long stretches due to injury.
A notable trade between the Senators and Leafs in the past included the Leafs trading their former captain Dion Phaneuf to Ottawa. While Calle Jarnkrok has not had as big of an impact as Dion Phaneuf has had in Toronto, whenever you're trading with a divisional rival, there will always be some added tension.
