Following practice on Monday, Max Domi announced via his Instagram page that he and Dr. Andrew Koutnik are launching a new podcast, entitled "In Range", to provide young athletes and those battling diabetes a resource of knowledge through their own experiences of dealing with the disease.
Domi has grown up with Type I diabetes and has been very outspoken about it since his days with the London Knights. The former first-round pick in 2013 even released a book in 2019 called "No Days Off: My Life with Type 1 Diabetes and Journey to the NHL", which detailed his diagnosis and how he has continuously learned how to balance his diet, insulin and physical demands throughout his hockey career.
In his announcement, Domi noted that the podcast aims to 'demystify' T1D by addressing the day-to-day management of the condition as well as regular life and sport challenges, which is where the title "In Range" comes from.
In addition to announcing his new venture, Domi revealed that fans won't have to wait long for their first episode to air either as it is expected to be released on World Diabetes Day, Thursday (11/14), and will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
After joining the Leafs on a one-year deal last season, Domi signed a four-year extension with the club ahead of July 1st and revealed he had been hoping to be long-term Leaf his entire NHL career.
Although he has begun the season on another lengthy goal drought, the 29-year-old has gotten praise from head coach Craig Berube about his growth on the defensive side of the puck, especially with Auston Matthews being out of the lineup.
