Every season, we see some strange things occur out on the ice. On Wednesday, however, we may have witnessed a first in the National Hockey League, following a hit by Ryan Reaves on Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson.
During the second period of the Leafs' clash with the Washington Capitals in Washington, Reaves attempted to finish his check hard on Carlson, but when he made contact with the boards, Reaves actually loosened a Lexus board ad, ending up with a long piece actually stuck to his jersey as he skated through the neutral zone.
Surprisingly, Reaves has yet to drop the gloves this season, which is quite a shocker when you consider the fact that we're approaching the quarter-mark of the season.
The veteran enforcer has appeared in 15 games for the Leafs so far in 2024-25, and has contributed just one assist prior to tonight's contest against the Capitals. He also has 41 hits to his credit coming into tonight's game, which is good for 2nd on the team in that category, behind only Steven Lorentz and Matthew Knies, who each had 42 hits ahead of tonight's game.
