When it was reported that Marc Savard and the Calgary Flames mutually agreed to part ways, speculation ran rampant about Savard joining Craig Berube behind the Toronto Maple Leafs bench. Savard has a history of working with Berube, but according to Darren Dreger on TSN's First Up' Friday morning, it is possible that Savard may opt to return to the junior coaching ranks.
Before joining the Flames, and coaching their power-play to the seventh worst in the league last season, Savard spent two seasons as the head coach of the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. In his first season coaching the Spitfires, Savard led the team to the OHL Championship Final, where they fell in seven games to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The Leafs have to fill at least one spot on Berube's coaching staff after Manny Malhotra departed to become the head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks. Decisions are yet to be made on the remaining members that were hired under Sheldon Keefe including Mike Van Ryn, Dean Chynoweth and Guy Boucher.
