The walk took place at Seton Park in Toronto and during the event, Domi was asked about both the Craig Berube hire and his own contract status.
As excited as Leaf fans were when Domi signed a 1-year, $3M deal with the Leafs, Domi was just as excited. Growing up around the Leafs thanks to his father Tie Domi, it was a dream come true for Max. Although his season started off slow for Domi, he finished with 9 goals and 47 points and stayed his goal was to re-sign in Toronto. Leafs GM Brad Treliving noted his desire to re-sign Domi as well.
Speaking to The Toronto Sun's Lance Horby at the event today, Domi revealed that his agent had been speaking with the Leafs but that he still doesn't know if he'll be back, reiterating he would love to be and play for Craig Berube.
It's believed that the Leafs will have to give him a million-dollar raise at the very least, but the Leafs only have a little less than $19M in cap space to rebuild their blueline, find a goaltender and fill out a couple of forward positions. With free agency just weeks away, it will be interesting to see how much, if any progress is made on an extension before July first.
