It is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in dire need of some help in the center position. After Auston Matthews, the depth down the middle quickly falls off, as Tavares is showing signs of slowing down and Max Domi is better suited for the wing.
One player who is perfectly suited for the 2C slot in Toronto is Nazem Kadri, who produced 75 points in Calgary last season.
If the Leafs were to reacquire the London Ontario native from the Flames, not only would the nostalgia value be high, but the Leafs' depth down the middle would improve immensely. This would also immediately give a boost to our top 6, making it one of the best top 6 groups in the entire NHL.
This also isn't the first time this off-season that speculation surrounding Kadri returning to the blue and white has been rumoured, as Naz switched his Instagram bio earlier this summer to a quite precarious set of emojis.
Shortly before the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, one Twitter/X user noticed a change in Kadri's bio on Instagram, with the words "Calgary, plane emoji, Toronto". As of 3:37pm on June 28th, the speculation really began to pick up. Of course, Calgary reporter Salim Valji poured cold water on that theory when he reported last week that Kadri appears to love it in Calgary.
Kadri could just be catching up with his friend and former teammate Marner in a friendly round of golf, but the fact that Kadri is a fan favourite in Toronto and a perfect fit on the Maple Leafs makes it fun to think of the possibilities nonetheless.
