Pelley arrived in Toronto with a bang, addressing the media publicly for the first time on Friday since being named the head honcho at MLSE, amid the departure of long-time CEO Larry Tanenbaum. Among the first messages he sent to fans was that he hears their concerns, understands their pain and vows to bring a Stanley Cup back to Toronto.
After the firing of Sheldon Keefe on Thursday, it's looking like the Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to shake up the culture.
The quote by CEO Pelley clearly indicates that the MLSE leadership team will no longer tolerate failure and will focus on a win now mentality. This new style of leadership could be exactly what the Leafs organization needs to understand why they are here and what the fans "deserve":
Keefe had incredible regular season success, but the players, the fans, the organization and the city deserve more.
The coaching change seems to be the first of many incoming changes to the Leafs organization beginning this summer. There is something satisfying in knowing the CEO of MLSE wants to produce a winning organization and focus less on "Jersey sales".
Will this new outlook on winning help push the Leafs to their first cup in almost 60 years? Who will be the next piece moved?
Only time will tell.
