It's become a cliche at this point. Robertson has been excellent, scoring five goals in the pre-season and cementing his spot as a regular on the Toronto Maple Leafs, only to once again suffer an untimely injury. While the severity or exact nature of the injury is unknown, the hope is that it's not serious for the speedy winger.
The injury in question is believed to have been suffered on this play, after taking an awkward shove from Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider.
While turning away from Seider and protecting the puck, Robertson took a shove and fell awkwardly into the boards, catching himself. He was able to stay on his feet, but appeared to hurt either his shoulder or his wrist. He was clearly in pain on the bench after this, but felt well enough to finish the game. It doesn't appear severe, but that's all we currently know.
Robertson has easily been the most impressive Leaf during the pre-season. After a long standoff and trade request this summer, the young sniper was persuaded to stay by General Manager Brad Treliving and new head coach Craig Berube and signed a one year, $875,000 contract.
With a real shot playing in the Leafs' top 6 this year, the forward looks extremely motivated not just offensively, but defensively as well. He's been all over the ice and has looked great. His coach thinks so, too.
If the goal was to make himself stand out for the new coaching staff, mission accomplished. Robertson should be given every opportunity to thrive in a top-6 role this season, as long as he is able to remain healthy. Hopefully his mysterious ailment does not get in the way of what should be a productive 2024-25 campaign.
