Morgan Rielly and Mitch Marner have steadied the ship in Auston Matthews' absence with torrid point streaks that have fuelled the Maple Leafs' current win streak.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are riding a three-game winning streak after they dispatched of the Montreal Canadiens last night by a score of 4-1. They shut out the Boston Bruins earlier in the week before taking care of business against Detroit on the first leg of their back-to-back set on Friday.

The impressive thing about this recent streak of wins is that the Maple Leafs have been without their captain and best goal scorer in Auston Matthews, who was placed on the IR, retroactive to November 3rd. In his stead the Leafs have outscored their opposition by a score of 11-2 and Marner and Rielly continue to pace the attack.

The duo's streak extends beyond Matthews' absence. However, they've really kicked up a notch over the last 3 games. After going without a point in his first 2 games of the season, Marner has collected 16 assists and 20 points in the following 14 games, including an 8-game point streak he's currently riding with 13 points to his credit over that run. He's also added 2 goals and 4 assists with Matthews on the shelf.

Rielly, on the other hand, had a more difficult start to the season with just 2 points in his first 7 contests. Since then, he's collected 3 goals and 10 points in his last 9 games and 1 goal and 5 assists over his last 3 games.

With Matthews on the mend, the Maple Leafs have had to rely on their top guns and they haven't disappointed as William Nylander has joined in on the fun as well with 2 goals and 3 assists over his last 3 contests.

The Leafs are a well-oiled machine right now and have played very well defensively during their winning streak. They will look to extend the streak to 4 games when they take on another Atlantic Division rival in the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
