TSN's Darren Dreger has provided an optimistic recovery timeline for injured Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe following his recent head injury.

Veteran defenseman Jake McCabe has faced some bad luck this season, falling victim to a series of freak accidents. The most recent incident occurred when he fell to the ice after finishing a fight with Philadelphia Flyers tough guy Garnet Hathaway over the weekend, and landing hard on the back of his head.

A few days ago, head coach Craig Berube was uncertain about McCabe's return from injury, but TSN's Darren Dreger has since offered an update on the veteran defenseman's timeline.

As per Leafslatest on X:

''Jake McCabe is expected to be back relatively soon. It's not going to be later this week but potentially right after that.''

While McCabe is not known for his offensive prowess, he is still capable of contributing offensively, having accumulated 11 points in 36 games this season. However, it's his defensive reliability and hard-hitting style that make him truly valuable, fitting perfectly into Craig Berube's system.

Though a few weeks without a top-four defenseman may seem like a significant loss for the Maple Leafs, Toronto has managed to weather a series of injuries to key players like Auston Matthews, Joseph Woll, and Anthony Stolarz, among others. Despite these setbacks, the team remains first in the Atlantic Division with a 27-13-2 record.

The Maple Leafs will be eager to welcome McCabe back, as he plays a crucial role in solidifying the defensive corps. In Berube's system, where defense wins championships, McCabe's return will be a welcome boost.
