"Leafs Morning Take" co-host and ex-Maple Leaf Jay Rosehill took to social media in the wee hours of the morning to reveal that Bertuzzi is signing with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The decision is certainly a head-scratcher, as the Blackhawks are not expected to contend for a Stanley Cup or even make the playoffs for the next season or two.
This morning, after doing some digging, The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta has reported that Bertuzzi's deal with the Hawks will come in at $5.5M for the next 4 seasons.
The news comes just a day after Max Domi inked a 4-year deal in Toronto at $3.75M per season.
Originally, it was believed that Bertuzzi was interested in staying in Toronto and that he was willing to be very flexible on both term and salary to make it happen. As we know now, that was obviously not the case.
Bertuzzi notched 21 goals and 43 points in 80 games with the Maple Leafs last season.
