The Maple Leafs and Nicholas Robertson ended their stalemate Tuesday morning with a new contract, but he still may not be on the Leafs' opening night roster.
Robertson and the Leafs agreed to a one-year deal Tuesday morning, ending the stalemate between the two sides. However, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli is reporting that his new deal doesn't necessarily mean that Robertson will be a Leaf come opening night of the regular season. Seravalli noted that it is 'still more likely' Robertson is traded, as a player under contract is always easier to move than one without a contract.
With the Leafs expected to signMax Pacioretty and Jani Hakanpaa they do need to move a player to create cap space as they only have $400K available after signing Robertson.
As training camp is fast approaching, the Leafs appear to be putting the final touches on a roster that looks very different from last year's group ahead of the regular season.
