Robertson and the Leafs ended their stalemate Tuesday morning, agreeing on a 1-year deal for the 22-year-old, which allows Brad Treliving to turn his attention to a pair of other contracts.
TSN's Darren Dreger has reported that with Robertson done, he expects the Leafs to announce deals for Jani Hakanpaa and Max Pacioretty in the near future. With Robertson's deal, the Leafs have just $400K in cap space available which means that another move will have to coincide with the signings of Hakanpaa and Pacioretty.
Given the injury concerns surrounding Hakanpaa, a PTO seems like the most logical option, while Pacioretty is more likely to get a standard player contract, but could still opt for a PTO as well, if Toronto is his preferred destination of the options available to him.
With the signings of Pacioretty and Hakanpaa appearing imminent, how Brad Treliving navigates the salary cap will be something to keep an eye on as we get closer to the start of the regular season. As teams are able to exceed the cap by 10% during the off-season, Treliving would have plenty of time to get the Leafs back below the cap before the regular season begins.
