Late in the second period with the score 1-0 Vancouver, Canucks forward Nils Hoglander slew-footed Sharks forward Kevin Labanc, leaving Labanc shaken up on the play. Hoglander was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for intent to injure.
There was definitely a slew-foot on the play but kicking him out of the game seems a bit extreme, considering what we saw a few short weeks ago in a Leafs/Bruins matchup.
As you'll recall, Brad Marchand took out Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren with a dirty stick between the legs a few feet from the boards with a 'can opener' move deep in the Leafs' zone.
No penalty was called on Marchand while Liljegren hasn't played since after suffering a lower-body injury. An embarrassing look for the NHL here.
