NHLer takes a skate to the face and nearly loses his eye
It was a busy night in the NHL on Tuesday, with all 16 teams in action. As we know, the Leafs were in action against the Washington Capitals and skated away with a 4-1 road victory. However, a little ways down the road in Chicago, one Boston Bruins forward was lucky to skate away with his eye after taking a skate blade to the face.
The play occurred after Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson had stumbled backward over Jakub Lauko, who was down on all fours, attempting to get back to his feet. During the slip by Dickinson, his skate had come up and clipped Lauko right under his visor. Lauko dropped his gloves and grabbed his eye, skating off the ice for immediate attention.
Following the game, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery had stated that Lauko, thankfully, would be okay, but this is one of those reminders that accidents can happen at any turn. While not intentional, this is one occurrences that could have had life-altering consequences for the 23-year-old.
Lauko has skated in just 29 career games for the Bruins, racking up a total of 7 points. He has gone pointless through 6 games so far this season.
