The Detroit Red Wings suffered a tremendous loss on Saturday when captain Dylan Larkin was struck in the head by two separate Ottawa Senators, which rendered him unconscious and laying motionless on the ice.

The play occurred in the first period during a net-front battle at the top of Joonas Korpisalo's crease, with Matheiu Joseph connecting up high with Larkin's head and neck, shoving him towards Parker Kelly, who appeared to catch Larkin in the head with his fist as he was turning, knocking the Red Wings captain out cold.

Wings forward David Perron was obviously concerned about his captain as he tracked down the first Senator he could find, defenseman Artem Zub, and struck him in the face with a stiff cross check.

Larkin was eventually able to make it to his feet, but required a great deal of help to make it back to the bench and straight down the tunnel.

As a result of his cross check on Zub, Perron was ejected from the game and assessed a 5-minute major penalty for intent to injure. Meanwhile, both Kelly and Joseph earned 2 minute minors for roughing on the Larkin injury.
