The NHL has announced the implementation of four controversial new rules ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Each offseason is a time for NHL general managers to look to upgrade their rosters. It is also when the NHL Board of Governors look at implementing changes to the game. Yesterday, it was announced that the NHL has decided on four new rule changes for the 2024-25 season.
NHL's Hockey Operations department is still working on the exact wording for the new rules, but they have released a basic outline of what's being changed ahead of next season.
Sportsnet's Eric Engles revealed the list via his personal account on X/Twitter on Wednesday.
1.Expansion of coach's challenge for puck-over-glass (only to challenge a called penalty, not to put one on the board).

2.Attacking players now get warned instead of removed from face off following an icing call.

3.Inadvertently knocking the net off rule (64.A iv)will now also apply to goalies (if they or anyone on the team does it, attacking team gets to choose face off location in o-zone and defending team can't change).

4.Rule 75.3 instituted for unsportsmanlike conduct-offending team will be first warned (and then penalized if they didn't heed the warning) for players hanging over the boards prior to a line change.

The expansion of the coach's challenge for puck over the glass penalty could really make a difference in a close game. It will certainly add more delays for fans awaiting the call, but in the end, it is important to have the correct call be made in these instances.
I'm sure that not everyone is excited about these rules, specifically the one related to players hanging over the boards getting ready for an extra quick line change. In the end, though, it's about making the game better for everyone.
