The Erik Karlsson saga appears to be over, as the Penguins, Sharks and Canadiens have reportedly come to terms on a 3-way trade that will land Karlsson in Pittsburgh, with both Jeff Petry and Mikael Granlund on their way out of Pittsburgh to different locations.

The Pens acquire Erik Karlsson, Rem Pitlick, Dillon Hamaliuk and San Jose's 2026 third-round draft pick in the deal, with the Sharks acquiring Pittsburgh's 2024 first-round draft pick (top-10 protected), forward Mikael Granlund, defenseman Jan Rutta and forward Mike Hoffman.

The Canadiens are the third team in the deal and have acquired Pittsburgh's 2025 second-round draft pick, defenseman Jeff Petry, Casey DeSmith and Nathan Legare.

The Sharks have agreed to retain just over 13% of Karlsson's salary while the Pens are reportedly retaining 25% of Petry's contract.
