Unfortunately, Andersen hasn't been able to play much this year after being diagnosed with a dangerous blood clotting issue. The former 3rd round pick in 2012 has played just 6 games with the Canes this season before being diagnosed with his condition and now, it appears as though we may be nearing the point where the Canes will be shutting him down for the entire season.
Per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Canes organization may have "dipped its toe in the goaltender market", also stating that there is a growing concern that his season may be over.
Injuries and illness have been the predominant storyline for Andersen in 3 of the last 4 seasons, which is really too bad - because, when healthy, Andersen is one of the best goalies in the NHL. In his first year in Carolina, a healthy Andersen played 52 games, posting a 2.17 GAA and a .922 SV%, earning some Vezina Trophy consideration. Since that 2021-22 campaign, however, Andersen has played just a combined 40 games across 2 seasons, posting a combined .898 SV%.
