High school player repeatedly kicks downed opponent, appears to try to cut him with his skate blade
Hockey is a contact sport, so of course, from time to time, tensions boil over and emotions get the best of players. We've seen intentional dirty hits thrown and two-handed chops with sticks, but I don't know if I've ever seen a player repeatedly kick a downed opponent and attempt to intentionally cut the player with his skate blade before. During a High School Junior Varsity game this weekend, that's exactly what happened.
In the video below, you can see #7 in black fall next to a player in white. He attempts to get up and skate away, but the player in white is holding his stick. Rather than working to get his stick loose, #7 starts kicking at the downed player in white, glancing one shot off of his head and a second one landing hard to the body. #7 then throws a third kick, which is more like a swipe of the blade than it does a kick with the toe. It's extremely disturbing to watch, so please proceed at your own discretion.
Following the incident, after the video landed on Twitter, the father of the boy who was being kicked revealed that his son is doing fine and was able to escape any major injury as a result of the extremely dangerous play. He also revealed that the police have been notified and that charges have been laid.
That's my son. The one on the ice. He is fine, 1 kick to the body & one glanced off his head. the other team was pissed as my son spent 2 mins as the only D on the ice killing a 5-3 penalty (bench minors) for his HS JV team. And yes the police were involved, charges filed.
-Mickey Keenan, the father of the student who was assaulted on the ice
I have no words... I couldn't imagine watching someone do that to my son. Thankfully, he's alright. That looked horrifying.
