Lately, it's seeming more and more like the Leafs can't receive any good news without some bad news being attached. This rings true on Saturday as the blueline took yet another hit.

During line rushes on Saturday morning, ahead of a clash with the Pittsburgh Penguins this evening, T.J. Brodie was nowhere to be found, indicating that he's either suffering from an illness or an injury and is unlikely to play against the Pens. Obviously, this is not ideal. Brodie is the Leafs' top defensive defenseman and his absence will certainly be felt.

It wasn't all bad, however, as Timothy Liljegren appears to be in line to make his return to the lineup tonight. Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe had Liljegren slotted in next to Morgan Rielly on the team's top pair during today's practice.

Liljegren has been injured since November 2nd, after suffering a high-ankle sprain following a dangerous trip from Brad Marchand in Boston. Keefe told the media earlier this week that Liljegren's ankle is back to 100% and that his absence for much of this week has been more related to getting his conditioning up to par.

The Leafs have picked up points in 13 of their last 14 games coming into tonight's contest against Pittsburgh.
