The truth of the matter is that none of us can see into the mind of Brad Treliving, the Leafs' new general manager, and what the roster for the 2023-24 season opener ends up looking like may be quite different than the one we envision.
Joseph Woll himself was a guest on "Leafs Morning Take" on Wednesday and during his interview with Nick Alberga and former Leaf Jay Rosehill, Woll was asked whether or not he views himself as ready to be a full-time NHL goalie. Not only does he believe that he's ready, he's also stated that he's willing to do whatever it takes to help the Leafs win a Stanley Cup.
Woll, 24, was drafted all the way back in 2016, if you can believe it. The route he took to get to a point where he feels that he's NHL-ready took him through a number of hockey programs. He began with the U.S. National Team for 3 seasons from 2014-16, then spent 3 years at Boston College, before inking his ELC with the Leafs. He then played a pair of seasons with the Marlies before making his NHL in the 2021-22 season.
Now, with 11 regular season games and 4 playoff games under his belt, Woll will be heading into next season with a combined .922 SV% and 2.39 GAA. There's still plenty of work ahead as he rounds out his game and fine tunes all of the smaller details, but all signs point towards a very bright future for the Dardenne Prairie, MO native.
