Leafs top a list that I'm not sure they want to be at the top of
With the last round of games set to take place this evening before the NHL's Christmas break kicks in, the hockey news has quieted to a whisper, leading many within the hockey community to generate their own discussions.
One analyst/stats expert decided to release a poll this week to track the league's most annoying fanbase and, surprise, surprise - Leafs Nation has landed at the top of the list as the NHL's most annoying fans. One thing that was surprising is exactly how large the margin between 1st and 2nd was. Leafs fans received more than twice the votes that the 2nd place Rangers fans did.
Rounding out the top 3 were the Montreal Canadiens fans, followed closely by Edmonton Oilers fans and Bruins cap off the top 5 before a massive drop takes effect for 6th-10th most annoying fanbases. You can see the full list below.
Granted, only 5300 votes were cast in the poll, but I'm sure if the poll was further-reaching, Leafs Nation still would have come out on top. I will say this - If the Leafs didn't have the largest fanbase in the NHL, I'm certain Leafs Nation would not rank number one. Yes, there are some fans with questionable ideals, but those exist in every fanbase. It just so happens that, because the Leafs' fanbase is the largest, there's just a higher volume of them. Or, maybe I'm just in denial.
